Funeral and Memorials for Travis Yoon (2025)

The funeral and memorials for Travis Yoon brought together Travis’s family, his Juilliard friends, and Ezra Cruz after Travis died in Evanston in August 2025. A funeral was held in Evanston, followed later by a memorial in New York City.

Evanston Funeral and Travel

Ezra paid the airfare for Brooke Kim, Aditi Sharma, Dylan Abrams, Sarah Chen, Gavin Worth, Rowan Collins, and Tyler Heard to travel from New York to Evanston for the funeral. His payment ensured that the cost of travel did not determine which of Travis’s Juilliard friends could attend.

New York City Memorial

A later memorial was held in New York City. Ezra asked Travis’s friends to participate, including the five members of Travis’s theory study group as well as Rowan and Tyler. Their involvement placed the people who had known Travis at Juilliard within the memorial rather than treating them only as attendees.

Bereavement and Community Response

Brooke loved that Ezra paid to bring Travis’s friends to Evanston and then made room for them in the New York memorial. She understood both acts as evidence that Ezra had loved Travis and was trying to do right by him after his death. That recognition complicated rather than ended her anger.

Brooke knew that Ezra had called Travis “Trevor” for nine weeks and understood his early treatment of Travis as a refusal to recognize him as a person until Ezra needed him. Because she did not know that private care between the roommates had begun before Travis’s diagnosis, she believed Travis’s illness had prompted Ezra’s change. Ezra’s later actions therefore made him harder for her to condemn without making the earlier harm feel less real.
